When did the evil academic "they" write the nefarious scholarly piece  
in question?  It's been a decade since I read any JDS criticism, and  
even though it's my job (shared with Jimself) to defend the academy  
on this philistine list, I have to admit I never read anything that  
seemed to get it right.  I figure there's got to be an academic out  
there somewhere who could write smartly about JDS and still manage to  
accommodate the precious sophomoric earnestness of all those  
characters that thrills us readers.
