[Bananafish] Nine Stories

The Nine Stories appear in the order that they were published.
There's simply no documentation telling us whose idea it was to place them
in this order.
Because Salinger chose the collection's title and dictated its packaging, my
gut tells me it was his idea.
In a way, the decision was an unfortunate one. Nine Stories would be
balanced better if Salinger had insisted his stories be included in the
order they were written instead of published.
As it stands now, "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes" sticks out of place.
The most deliberate and well-documented placement is the last story,"Teddy."
Salinger not only wrote the piece intending it to close Nine Stories, but he
instructed Little, Brown to include the story even before he had finished
it.
Something tells me this is the crux of your question. Salinger indeed wrote
"Teddy" to reflect upon "Bananafish."
