Howdy Cecilia et al.,

Howdy indeed! You know some (I'm guessing I'm not the only one) of us Texains
(so as not to confuse us with Houston's American Football Teamsters) weren't
born here and don't necessarily cotton to those Southern stereotypes. Crazy
busy probably describes life for many of us, particularly those who are at the
beginning of another semester. I’m just starting my third year at graduate
school and by the amount of reading piled next to my desk you would think it
was already mid October (or the middle of the summer, if only it were pleasure
reading). This brings me to the first general question to ask the new
Bananafish as well as the "old." I’ve provided my very own answer to get
things moving.
1.	What pleasure reading did you do over the summer? Anyone reread some JDS?
Myself, I turned my old roommate on to Franny and Zooey, but I read mostly
young adult fantasy and sci-fi this summer (a very guilty pleasure when I’m
supposed to be working on a thesis!). I’ve been particularly taken by all
things Phillip Pullman. I reread the His Dark Materials series for the third
time and looked up some of his older stuff also.
2.	To the Texians, those in Austin in particular, have any of you looked up the
JDS stuff at UT-Austin? I’ve only made it out to Austin once so far and that
was to see a concert. I drove out and back on the same day (or 24 hour period
even if it was 3am the next day). So I haven’t had a chance to look at them,
but it is on my ‘to do’ list for my next trip to Austin. That and the giant
bat colony.
3. I know we've done this before, but can we get a new tally of everyone's
location? I thougt it was a lot of fun before to find out where everyone
lives.
I hope everyone is doing well. Howdy from Houston!

Swimmingly,

Amber
