Howdy Daniel,

I'd agree with your last statement.  If I had to peg down a religion I'd place
myself somewhere between Bahá’í and Unitarian Universalist (which I think had
to fight for non-profit status because people didn't think of it as a
religion).  But I could just as easily label myself as a secular humanist. 
I've noticed that many of the folks I've known since college have "very few
hard and fast religious commitments" as you put it.
