I hold library cards to 5 distinct Libraries and it's a no go. I could
do an interlibrary loan but I'd rather slice off my nipples with a razor
blade it would be less painful.

I saw Omega Man at the drive-in when I was a kid (the second
feature), I
loved it. I picked up the Vincent Price Last Man on Earth for a
buck
and it was dated. I saw Smith's Legend Monday and loved it too.
So I
picked up the book at a grocery store yesterday and finished it
last
night. I liked it too.
If you like Cormac's dark sparse words than read his earlier
stuff too.
Oh, check out Donaldson's Gap series I am pretty sure it is up
your
alley. Go with the first book to see if you like it, it's a
fast read.
I found Exley online for $10 but that is too steep for a used
paperback,
I'll keep looking.

Been reading a few things lately, still haven't found
that Exley

In Legacy of Honor, The Life of Rafael Chacon I ran
across a
note which struck me like a well timed donkey kick;
"The population of New Mexico, . . ., relied heavily on
the oral
tradition for information and entertainment. Thus, skills in
memorization and fast witty repartee were highly valued. News
was
disseminated by troubadors, much like those Europe saw in the
Middle
Ages, and at any gathering there were always those rhymers who
would be
challenged by others who wanted to prove their superiority in an
exchange of quips, wise cracks, or clever verse."
I grew up with this, and every phone call to, and visit
with my
friends and family back home always carries this tradition on.
It would
seem that Zooey may have been unhealthily influenced as well.
By
comparison all other forms of philadelphic interaction pale.
It is like an orchestral improvisation each note serving
as a
tread for the companion's response. And when the whole dizzy
affair
runs its course you are treated with a breathless and shared
view -
vista, and it is these landscapes that make the best mental
furniture,
heirlooms really and the written word is only its drifting
phantasmal
shimmer.
