[Bananafish] reading and rereading

Ooh, Amber, you're at Rice.  Totally cool. I hope you like it.

Pullman was highly critical of Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia.  He
offered rather banal, predictable criticisms of Lewis having
repressive ideas about adult sexuality (I guess he never read _That
Hideous Strength_) and an overall unrealistic view of the world.
While I haven't finished a single Pullman novel, the first three or
four chapters of The Golden Compass created the impression on me that
Lewis simply remembered that he was writing for children while Pullman
did not.

And it's not like Pullman's world is somehow more "realistic" because
all the characters are so readily willing to murder one another.  That
may be Pullman's view of the world, but it's not true in my
experience.
